Espoir sign Shyaka to replace departing Kabange

National basketball league champions Espoir have signed Kigali Basketball Club forward 19-year old Olivier Shyaka to replace Kami Kabange, who joined Uganda side City Oil Basketball Club.

National basketball league champions Espoir have signed Kigali Basketball Club forward 19-year old Olivier Shyaka to replace Kami Kabange, who joined Uganda side City Oil Basketball Club.It is reported that Rwandan international forward Kabange signed a one-year deal with a salary of US$700 (about Rwf0.47m) per month. Espoir moved quickly and replace him with Shyaka, who signed a two-year deal.In February, Espoir, seeking to win the Rwandan league title for the first time since 2005, signed 17-year old Steven Hatumintwari and Herve Kayitana, 18 from Petit Seminaire de Karubanda.Head coach Jean Bahufite confirmed the signing, saying the signings highlight the club’s policy of giving a chance to the young players. He said: "Shyaka is a very good, young player with a bright future ahead of him, so I believe he will help the team in the upcoming competitions both locally and on the continent.”"It’s important to strengthen our team in preparation for the league next season; they are good players and signing them is good but they still have to work hard and the fans should give them time to rise up to challenge,” Bahufite added.The Nyamirambo-based club won this year’s regular league and playoffs titles with an unprecedented unbeaten record.
