Is call centre affecting my hearing?

Dear Doctor;I work in a call centre for a telecom company, which means I use telephones all the time. My ears hurt and sometimes I hardly hear when someone is talking to me. My friends also tell me I might get cancer. Is this true? Is over using the telephone dangerous to my health in any way? Joseph, 24.

Joseph, 24.Dear Joseph,Hearing problems in this case may be caused by loud high pitched sound which may not be the case in the call centre. However, cancer as a result of over using the phone was ruled out and its impossible so that cant happen. Most of those devices are made with a lot of precaution. However, since you already have a hearing problem yet you work in a call center, consider visiting your Ear Nose and Throat clinic or an ENT consultant for medical help and treatment.
