The YouthConnekt Month, an initiative aimed at assessing youth achievements in the country’s development, was on Friday launched with a call to the youth to work hard and to join cooperatives in order to be more productive.The call was made by the Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, as he addressed hundreds of Ngororero youth who had gathered for the official launch of the month-long initiative.Speaking at the function in Kabaya sector, the minister challenged the youth to embrace the saving culture, work hard and join cooperatives so as to strengthen their contribution towards the nation’s quest to development.He told them that they have the ability to become job creators by starting to invest from ‘the little’ they have and added that those who need support will be supported through the Kuremera programme, an initiative designed to speed up job creation in the country.Kuremera is a Rwandan ages-old practice where family and friends donate to young adults to get them started as they become independent."You should start thinking of and investing in income generating activities. That will help you to sustain your life in the upcoming years and prepare you to live a dignified life”, Nsengimana told the youth."We request other members of the community to support the youth in their initiatives and offer them a helping hand whenever they [the youth] need you”.Youth reiterated their commitment to remain actively involved in all developmental initiatives and expressed their resolve to work hard towards building a strong nation.Twenty six-year-old Eugene Nzanywayinshuti, a farmer, said they were now more determined to better their lives and ‘nothing will stop them’.
