NUR, Muhanga move clear in Div. two

The National University of Rwanda (NUR) moved four points clear at the top of pool A in the second division after a 1-0 win over La Jeunesse 1-0 in Huye on Saturday.

In the absence of their head coach, the hosts went a head in the in the 17th minute through Gabriel Ngabirame and despite their domination, a second goal proved elusive.

"We played our best game and we had luck on our side because we scored early and defended our goal very well” said Yves Gasagure, the team’s assistant coach.

Gasagure, who was in charge of the team in the absence of the head coach Gervain Manirakiza said that they are determined to win their remaining two fixtures so as to book a place in semifinals.

"We can’t afford to lose at this stage since we are not yet assured of the first place” Gasagure noted.

However, in case second placed La Jeunesse wins all their three remaining games and NUR fails to get six in the last two games, the Nyamirambo based side will qualify on the expense of the varsity side.

UNR lead pool A with 34 points, four ahead of La Jeunesse who have played a game less, Union are 3rd with 28 points, Amagaju (27) in fourth, Stella Maris fifth (26).

Nyanza and Mukungwa are sixth and seventh on 25 and 23 points respectively while Sorwathe, Aspor and Rwanda Fc occupy the bottom three positions with 19, 15 and zero points respectively.

In pool B, Muhanga moved six points clear at the top with one game left. The Southern Province side despite drawing 1-1 with Yellow Stars, moved to 44 points, six ahead of second placed Musanze, who also drew 1-1 against Etoil de Leste.
