The Minister of Livestock and Fisheries in Burkina Faso, Jérémy Tinga Ouedraogo, is in the country to learn about the One Cow per Family Programme commonly known as Girinka.

Accompanied by other two experts, the team will spend five days in the country.

On Thursday, they visited the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources where they were received by Dr. Agnes Kalibata, the Minister of Agriculture.

"We want to learn  how we can increase and stabilise production using the experience here,” Ouedraogo said.

He commended the agriculture ministry for its initiatives and strategies that has seen a linkage between agriculture and livestock.

Kalibata told the guests that ‘Girinka’ was one of the home-grown solutions the government has initiated to respond to challenges the population face.

During their visit, the team will make several field visits around the country.  They will visit Kicukiro and Gicumbi districts to get first hand information from beneficiaries of the One Cow per Family Program. They will also visit milk collection centres, farmers’ cooperatives, and farmer feed mills.
