National Football League leaders Rayon Sports maintained their thrust to win the Primus League title this season with a 5-0 maul of relegation-bound Etincelles on Saturday at Umuganda stadium. 

In nine minutes of the first half, Rayon Sports had registered a 2-0 win courtesy of excellent strikes from Kambale Salita and Cedric Amissi.

After recess, the blues heaped pressure on the Western Province giants and snatched another three more goals to end the day registering a 5-0 win. Amissi grabbed a double in the second half to seal a hat trick while Salita scored the other goal to make it a double.

The blues maintain the Primus League log leadership with 51 points in 23 matches played while Etincelles are relegated even though they are still three more matches to play.

Rivals Police also maintained pressure in second position with a late 1-0 win over Musanze Fc who were punished for their failure to kill off the game earlier in the game when they wasted several goal scoring opportunities.

Eric Ndahayo curled home a brilliant free kick in stoppage time to earn maximum points for the Cops who were heading for a draw. The Cops side remain second with 48 points, three points behind leaders Rayon Sports with three matches to the end of season.

Rayon Sports are looking for their first silverware in nine years since they last lifted the league title while Police is looking forward to winning their first silverware in the club’s 12-year history.

The battle for third spot was well secured by APR FC whose youngsters mauled AS Kigali 3-0 at Stade de Kigali. Maxime Sekamana opened the goal scoring rout with a brilliant strike after connecting Jean Claude Iranzi’s set-piece on 25th minute.

After recess, substitute Yannick Mukunzi who replaced wasteful Tumaine Ntamuhanga doubled the lead with a powerful strike following Iranzi’s effort on 80th minute.

Nova Bayama completed the rout seconds to stoppage time with a robust strike from outside the goal area to earn maximum points for the military side who are third with 42 points.

AS Kigali who wasted two clear chances from Jimmy Mbaraga and Laudit Mavugo have dropped to sixth position with 32 points.

La Jeunesse jumped to fifth position with 35 points after a 1-0 win over Amagaju in Nyamagabe while Mukura snatched a 1-0 win over nine-man AS Muhanga to move to remain on fourth position with 38 points.

AS Muhanga remain tenth with 25 points. SC Kiyovu jumped to seventh position with 32 points following a 3-1 win over ten-man Isonga FC at Amahoro stadium. 

Pekeyake Tuyisenge, Julius Bakkabulindi and Masudi Kaka scored crucial goals for the old giants while Justin Mico scored the consolation goal for the youthful Isonga who might be relegated with they don’t win their next three matches. Marines forced Espoir to a 1-all draw in Rusizi to stay out of the relegation zone.

Espoir are 11th with 24 points while Marines are twelfth with 21 points respectively. Isonga and Etincelles occupy the bottom two places with 15 and 14 points, respectively, and both are hot favorites to drop to the second division.
