Dear editor,

As the 11th AU summit progresses a lot of issues concerning the African continent are being tackled.

The prevalent poverty levels, soaring fuel and food prices and the political crisis’s in Africa are some of the issues discussed.

President Mugabe of Zimbabwe is one of the attendants in the summit which he could not miss despite of his failure to ensure fair and peaceful elections in his country.

One of the rules of the AU summit is to fight against governments and presidents who come into power without being democratically elected into power.

Mr. Mugabe is a culprit in this area and the funny thing is that no other president has the guts to openly criticize his behavior.

All that the AU chairman President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania could say was that he sympathized with the people of Zimbabwe and added that there were more sufferings to come.

Sincerely this meeting could not have come at a better and more convenient time as this. This is the right time for the rest of the African heads of state to deal and criticize Mugabe’s undemocratic behavior.

Mugabe needs to also be made aware of the crimes he has committed against the people of Zimbabwe during the election campaigns. He simply can not place himself for a 6th term as president and act as if everything is alright when it is not!

With all the turmoil and difficulties that the African continent faces, integrity, cooperation and determination in implementing good governance in the continent is what should be looked at and encouraged. Tomorrow never comes and the only time to act is now.

Africa needs to move forward and leave all its wrangles and poor ‘etiquettes’ of rule and governance behind. This is the only way we can to realize peace especially in Zimbabwe.
