If you have been following entertainment news in the country, you must have realised more artistes are dropping songs lately. And most of those musicians are the Primus Guma Guma SuperStar season three (PGGSS III) contestants. Like Chinua Achebe says in his novel, Things Fall Apart, "a toad does not run in the day for nothing”. We thought that there must be a reason why these musicians took to the studio to record the songs and release them in this particular period. We wondered where they got the time to even go to the studios considering that they should be busy with the Primus Guma Guma activities and preparing themselves for the annual music competition.Christopher Muneza, is one of the contestants who released his single, Birahagije, last week. He says since a day is made up of 24 hours, they cannot fail to find time for the things that they have to do."When you have the talent, everything works itself out,” he said. He added that he actually wrote his song in only three hours. Well, he said he decided to release his single now before the road shows kick off, so that he can have a song that his fans can dance to during the performances. "We want to start the competition with a new spirit and one more hit for the fans,” Urban Boyz frontman, Humble Jizzo said about their release of the single, Kelele. He said for some time since the release of Ibitenge, in early February this year, all they have had are collaborations. So, something new from the group for the fans is great; it would bring more energy to them. However, the singer, born James Manzi, does not look at this song as one that will win them the cash prize of Rwf24 million. "Our old songs are still hits all over the country. I wouldn’t say that we released this song for that purpose,” he said. Jizzo explained that the song was part of the projects they had to work on before the PGGSS competition starts. However, they realised this would be the perfect time to release it to their fans. Adolf Bagabo, a.k.a Kamichi also released his single, Byacitse which is to appear on his second album, Ubumuntu. Also songstress, Knowless, recently released a song, Rejoice featuring Blaze. There is still time and we wait to see whether the other contestants like Fireman, Bull Dog, Eric Senderi, Danny Nanone, Dream Boys, Mico and Riderman will follow the trend of taking to studios to impress fans. Primus Guma Guma SuperStar is a music contest which brings together all local professional music stars competing to become a Primus Guma Guma SuperStar. The first edition was done in 2011 and the winner was Tom Close, while the second edition was claimed by King James.Only 11 from those artistes were selected to compete in the third edition. This year’s grand finale is scheduled for July.
