Build model villages, districts told

Districts should build at least one model village in their respective areas in the  near future.Emmanuel Mugabo, in charge of rural settlement in the Ministry of Local Government, made the remarks while addressing local leaders in Kayonza district on Monday.District vice-mayors in charge of economic affairs from all districts in Eastern Province visited the famous Nyagatovu and Kitazigurwa model villages to learn from their experience.The model villages were established in 2009 and now have over 100 well furnished houses.Mugabo said that the one day study tour was aimed at giving authorities concerned with settlements in districts, real examples of model villages."We are in the final touches of the preparations for rural model villages,” he said, adding that there would be more study tours across the country.He noted that each district would construct the villages in a way unique to its set-up.Enock Byabashaija, coordinator of Integrated Development Project in Eastern Province, said the concept of model villages was bearing fruits.
