Challengers Cricket Club and Telugu Cricket Club reached the finals of the V.R.Naidu-RCA T20 Cup 2013 after they both won their semifinal matches against Kigali and Indorwa Cricket Clubs, respectively, on Sunday at Kicukiro oval.Challengers won the toss and elected to field first and the early morning chilly weather helped their pace bowlers to swing the ball well, and coupled with tight fielding, KCC were restricted to 82 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Subasis Samal and Mehabub Shaikh took two wickets each for Challengers. In reply, Challenger’s opening batsman, Sairam Gopalan started the chase by hitting all-round the park and was helped by KCC’s poor fielding as their fielders dropped five catches in the match.Sairam scored 24 runs which included two huge sixers, but after his departure from the crease, Challengers lost eight wickets in quick succession. However, Ahmed Farishta and Sudheer Reddy took them to the victory mark in the 18th over and a place in the final. Telugu stunned an experienced Indorwa Cricket Club to reach the final. Telugu showed their fighting spirit, though they were playing only their second tournament since their club was formed last year.TCC batted first with their top six batsmen back in the pavilion with just 56 runs on board.TCC all-rounder Sagar K.B took the game away from Indorwa by hitting a magnificent 37 runs not out which included 3 massive sixers and two fours. He was ably supported by Naushed Rajwani as TCC put on a defendable 114 runs in 20 overs with loss of six wickets. At one point the game looked like going to the wire as their start all-rounder Eric Hirwa Dusebamungu and captain Mihir Solanki built a good partnership, but it was not enough to secure their team a win.Eric Hirwa scored 32 runs and Solanki scored 21 runs. TCC bowlers Srinivas Reddy and Suveesh Kottemmal picked two wickets each.In the women league, Queens of Victory will face White Clouds Cricket Club in the final of the V.R.Naidu –RCA T20 Cup 2013.Both teams topped the group by winning their matches against Kigali Angels and Charity Cricket Club. The final will be played Sunday morning at Kicukiro Oval.
