Amavubi Stars duo Haruna Niyonzima and Mbuyu Twite helped Dar es Salaam’s Young Africans, popularly known as Yanga FC, to the 2013 Tanzania Mainland League title over the weekend.Yanga, who have dethroned archrivals Simba Sports Club, won the league without kicking a ball following other weekend results that went in their favour where Coastal Union held second-placed Azam FC to a 1-1 draw.Azam, coached by Englishman Stewart Hall, have 49 points and even if they won their remaining two matches, they will attain 55 points. Yanga have so far garnered 56 points withe two games to play.It was all smiles for Yanga’s head coach Ernie Brandts, who only joined the Dar es Salaam team this season after his two-year contract with Rwandan champions APR and wasn’t offered a new deal.He said despite having won the title already, they will take the other two remaining matches seriously. Yanga’s two remaining matches are against Coastal Union and bitter rivals Simba on the final day of the season. The former Dutch international admitted that his team has a tough task ahead of their continental assignments next year. Both Haruna and Mbuyu will once again head to Darfur to ensure that Yanga retain the Cecafa/Kagame Club Championship title next month.
