Rayon win, Police falter

Six-time league champions increased their chances of winning this season’s Primus League title as they registered a 1-0 win over Isonga yesterday at the Amahoro stadium.

Rayon Sport could only register a solitary goal despite dominating most part of the game.The game started on a slow pace with both sides struggling to convert a few passes. The first chance of the match fell to the away side. Kambale Salita and Fuadi Ndayisenga linked up for the umpteenth time this season but the latter was unable to bundle in a cross from the former APR FC midfielder.The blues crowd that gathered at the Amahoro Stadium had to wait till the 18th minute to see their side create a goal scoring chance. Ndayisenga curled a sharp ball past goalie Steven Ntalibi to register the lone goal of the game following a foul on Kambale outside the goal area by Latifu Bishira.Isonga who are fighting to avoid relegation saw Papy Sibomana attempts resulting from free kicks saved by Gerard Bikorimana in the second half.Despite causing havoc in the midfield for Rayon, Isonga’s Robert Ndatimana set pieces to Justin Mico and Sibomana could not help them squeeze an equaliser past the blues who mounted a solid defence.The win maintains Rayon Sport’s pole position with 48 points at the summit of the Primus league table while Isonga remains ranked in 13th position with 15 points and are set to be relegated if they don’t secure twelve points in the remaining four matches.Police FC who were hoping to close the gap on leaders were frustrated to a goalless draw by Muhanga. Police remains second with 45 points, three behind leaders.Elsewhere, Mukura beat Etincelles 1-0 at Kamena grounds to maintain the 4th position with 35 points while Marines humbled Musanze 2-0 at Umuganda stadium to ensure their safety from the relegation zone with 20 points in 12th position.La Jeunesse moved to 6th position with 31 points after a 1-0 win over Espoir at Stade de Kigali.The other two matches played on Saturday ended with defending champions APR scoring a late winner against SC Kiyovu courtesy of Nova Bayama to maintain APR’s 3rd position with 39 points.Fifth-placed AS Kigali was held to a goalless draw against Amagaju at Stade de Kigali.
