United Kingdom Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has pledged to stay loyal and devoted to the new head of state, King Charles III, who has inherited the throne after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday afternoon.

Truss made the statement while addressing the nation shortly after Buckingham Palace announced the Queen’s death, whom they said died peacefully at Balmoral.

"As we mourn, we must come together as a people to support him, to help him by the awesome responsibility that he now carries for us all. We offer him our loyalty and devotion, just as his mother devoted so much to so many, for so long,” Truss said.

She commended the late Queen’s 70-year rule and described her as the rock on which modern Britain was built.

"Our country has grown and flourished under her reign. Britain is a great country it is today because of her. We are now a modern, thriving, dynamic nation. Through thick and thin, Queen Elizabeth II provided us with the stability and the strength that we needed. She was the very spirit of Great Britain, and that spirit will endure,” Truss added.

Two days ago, Elizabeth II made her first public appearance since July this year, to meet Truss, before the latter assumed office.

Queen Elizabeth has ruled Britain for 70 years, making her the longest reigning monarch in the UK and the second in the whole world.
