Nigerian policemen, 5 Boko Haram militants killed in clash

Abuja. Military operatives in northeastern Nigeria have confirmed that seven people were killed in a shoot out at night between security troops and Boko Haram militants.

Abuja. Military operatives in northeastern Nigeria have confirmed that seven people were killed in a shoot out at night between security troops and Boko Haram militants.The seven people includes two policemen and five of the gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram militants, Lt. Eli Lazarus, spokesperson of the Nigerian Joint Task Force (JTF) told Xinhua.Lazarus said the gunmen attacked a JTF location, a police station and police area command office at Gashua, about 187 kilometers from Damaturu, Yobe State capital on Wednesday night.He said the exchange of gunshots continued till the early hours of Thursday.The spokesperson said that the attack was repelled by the JTF troops, adding that many of the Boko Haram terrorists took to their heel with severe injuries sustained in the gun battle.According to him, the gunmen also took away a police patrol vehicle fitted with siren, another vehicle belonging to the police, some police uniforms and other items during the attack.
