The Rwanda Volleyball Federation plans to concentrate on improving local beach volleyball in a bid to build a strong national team capable of competing favourably in international competitions.The announcement comes just a week after Rwanda’s U23 men and women teams qualified for the world championships following their success at the African championships held in Mombasa. The men’s team won gold medal, while the women took bronze.Now, according to the Rwanda Volleyball Federation chairman Gustave Nkurunziza, the idea is to produce strong beach volleyball players, who can help the country do well at the international level."It is not hard to have good players in beach volleyball as we have already proved but we just have to train them well and send them for regional and international competition for more exposure,” he noted.According to the head of beach volleyball in the local volleyball governing body, Alex Mbaraga, Rwanda has good players able to compete at the international level as proved at the African championships in Kenya this year, and last year in Togo.Rwanda qualified for 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships for both women and men. The world meet is scheduled for June 6-9 in Myslowice, Poland. The city, located 70km outside the capital Krakow, will host a FIVB age group World Championships for a third time after successfully hosting the U19 and U21 World Championships, respectively in 2006 and 2007.
