MUSANZE — Women in the country have been cautioned against oversleeping because this would reduce their productivity in the homestead, the area district official has said.

Addressing over 100 women participants during a seminar on entrepreneurship, last week, Musanze Mayor, Celestin Karabayinga said women in rural areas should wake up and compete with men.

The one-week training was meant to equip participants with the knowledge of formulating income generating projects, saving schemes, creation and management of micro-projects, in order to enable them engage in formal business.

The seminar was organised by Duterimbere asbl, a national women organisation in conjunction with the Ministry of Gender and the National Women Council.

It attracted women members of Duterimbere association from Musanze and Burera districts. 

"You should have peaceful dialogue in your families on the projects you want to do, set visionary commitments if you are to get rich,’’ the Mayor said before handing over certificates of merit to the participants.

In a joint resolution, participants committed themselves to formulate their project proposals and forward them to CAPMER (the co-organisers of the event) for screening before they deposit them to banks for loans.

Lisa Mukarugema, the president of Duterimbere in Musanze, said that the training would foster solidarity among women and empower them to run the businesses they intend to set up.
