RUSIZI — Members of the Local Defence forces (LDU) in Rusizi District have appealed to the government for salary increment in order to boost their morale.

About 130 local defence personnel made the appeal recently at a meeting convened by the national head of LDU, Superintendent Fred Ndoli at Cyangugu regional stadium in Kamembe.

The meeting which was attended by all local defence personnel across the district was aimed at addressing their concerns.

Joseph Kwetumbari, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said their remuneration was not enough and appealed to the government to increase it. Kwetumbari also asked for more working equipments like uniforms.

Addressing the group, Ndoli advised them to form business cooperatives in order to fight poverty.

Ndoli cautioned the members against laziness and advised them to work hard and help each other in everyday activities.

The official asked the group to cooperate with all security organs in the district to ensure security in the area, especially for genocide survivors.
