DAR ES SALAAM. Fifa says it will rule next week on a dispute over who can stand in elections for the Tanzania Football Federation. Football’s world governing body concluded an investigation into the matter on Wednesday.The head of Fifa’s membership committee, Primo Covarro, has been in the country, investigating the circumstances that led to the disqualification of all but one of the presidential candidates."We’ve met and listened to the disqualified candidates, federation leaders, government officials and everyone involved in the election process,” Covarro said."We are not decision makers, our task is to present our report to Fifa and Caf, the decision will be made in one week’s time.”The crisis erupted when the election committee disqualified former executive secretary of local side Yanga Jamal Malinzi.He was disqualified on the grounds that he did not have five years of leadership experience, and that left federation vice-president Athuman Nyamlani unopposed for the post of president.Former TFF secretary general Michael Wambura, who was running for the vice-president’s post, has also been prevented from standing on the grounds he lacks integrity, something he deniesThe elections had been due to be held at the end of last year to replace outgoing President Leodegar Tenga, who is not seeking re-election. But the process was halted following Fifa’s intervention after disqualified candidates complained.
