FIFTY European based runners have so far confirmed participation in next month’s Kigali International Peace Marathon, Rwanda Athletics Federation secretary general Johnson Rukundo has said. "With registration for runners on the African continent starting today, I can confirm that 50 runners from Europe have confirmed their participation via online registration.”"In order to control the flow of registration of regional runners during the last days, we have put registration centers at every Nakumatt supermarket in both Uganda and Kenya so as to ease the burden of runners having to travel to Kigali in order to meet the registration deadline,” added Rukundo.The event due on May 19 is organised in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports and Culture alongside Soroptimist international. The annual marathon will cover 41,195 km. The marathon which was initiated in 2005 will attract athletes from Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, and other parts of the globe.Last year Kenyans dominated the tournament.Paul Kosjei won after clocking 2h, 14minutes and 56 seconds. He walked away with 2500$, while Eliud Magut an Willy Korir followed in second and third positionrespectively.
