President Kagame and other leaders on Wednesday attended the 2022 Africa Food Prize Award Ceremony and the AGRF 2022 Gala Dinner, celebrating individuals and institutions helping transform African food systems. The events were organized as part of the ongoing Africa Green Revolution Forum that is underway in Kigali.
President Kagame paid tribute to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo for his work as Chair of the Africa Food Prize Committee.
The event celebrated Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, a Ghanaian plant geneticist, as the winner of the coveted prize. The laureate was recognised for his outstanding expertise, and skills that led to the establishment and development of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) as a world class centre for training plant breeders in Africa for Africa.
The one-week summit that has drawn over 2,600 participants, is taking place in Kigali, from September 5 through 9.
