Born in 1981 in Kibeho, Western Province, Kizito Mihigo is one of the most respected artistes in the country. And one of the most prolific. Mihigo has written and recorded about 400 songs so far, according to available records and recordings. It is said that he wrote more than 200 songs before his 19th birthday! Many of Mihigo’s songs are sung in Catholic churches across the country and region. In 2003, Mihigo joined Conservatoire de Musique de Paris, a music school in France from where he graduated with a post-graduate diploma in music. He also taught music at Institut Provincial in Belgium from 2008-2010.  Twanze Gutoberwa Amateka, a song he composed two years ago when Rwanda was commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, is his biggest hit so far. The song became an instant hit not only because of its positive message but also for its slow, sweet melody. In this song, Mihigo’s vocal dexterity is a notch higher. The song appeals to fans of all religions and ages. Today, this song rules the airwaves like it was released just yesterday. Some of his other most popular songs include Turi abana b’u Rwanda and Mwungeri W’intama.
