MISS RWANDA 2012 has called on Rwandan youth to up-root and ‘say no’ to any genocide related ideologies in order to have a unified and prosperous society.Aurore Umutesi was briefing journalists in Kigali on youth activities as Rwandans commemorate the Genocide against the Tutsi for the 19th time."It takes time to change people’s mindsets but I am optimistic the youth can do great in fighting such negative attitudes that persist among some of the older people,” Umutesi noted.Some of the activities to be conducted by the youth during this commemoration period include visiting Kigali Memorial Centre today and a night vigil at Petit Stade, Remera. Calling for unityThe activities are aimed at paying respect to the victims, comforting the survivors and honouring the youth that were killed during the Genocide.The activities were organised in coordination with various Rwandan artistes, beauty pageant organisers and the National Youth Council."Let us fight whatever can separate us and instead be united for the good of our country,” she said.Alphonse Nkuranga, the Executive Secretary of the National Youth Council, said the involvement of the youth in this commemoration period should not be seen in their participation in remembrance discussions only but leaders have to involve them in the action plans so their voice can be heard.
