Nyarubuye memorial site, Kirehe district, is under intensive renovation. It is one of the eight national Genocide memorial sites housing the remains of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Over 51,000 people were killed and buried at this site, formerly a Catholic church. Dieudonnée Kayitare, a National Commission for the Fight against the Genocide (CNLG) official, said internal renovations have been finished. "The next phase will be the external environment, including gardens, parking, etc”. According to CNLG , renovation of one memorial site costs around Rwf 100 million.
