Would you tell your partner that they are gaining weight?

I am a very open person! It’s weird how people get offended when they are told that they have put on weight. If I told my partner that he looks plumper, and he assumes that it’s an insult then I would assure him how Africans operate. I say what I see! Why keep quiet when your partner is leading an unhealthy life?

I am a very open person! It’s weird how people get offended when they are told that they have put on weight. If I told my partner that he looks plumper, and he assumes that it’s an insult then I would assure him how Africans operate. I say what I see! Why keep quiet when your partner is leading an unhealthy life? Let us assume he is gaining weight as a result of work pressure or depression, should I let him become obese because it will hurt his feelings? Hell no! I will talk to him. If it means lecturing him each day about the dangers of becoming overweight then I will do it. I thought openness in a relationship was vital! What is the essence of me going around telling my girlfriends how my partner’s weight gain is bothering me yet I can’t tell him personally? That is hypocrisy of the highest order! In fact, if my partner had issues about my weight and failed to talk to me about it just because it is considered an ‘insult’ to tell a girl that she is gaining weight or she is ‘fat’ then we would have a serious problem. Not talking about specific issues that are affecting a partner in a relationship is dangerous. If weight gain is the problem and you can’t talk about it then one might be forced to start cheating with people who have the kind of weight they admire. Allegedly some men cheat on their partners after they have given birth because they can’t stand the weight they have gained. I really wish some of these men were better educated because they should know that after childbirth some women may experience problems linked to unexplained weight gain. Instead of cheating, they should help their partners get back into shape and exercise with them to motivate them to lose the baby weight. There are some simple tips for those who find it hard to tell their partners that they have added unnecessary weight.  Suggest to your partners the importance of a healthy lifestyle and as a couple, make it a point to eat better and healtheir.  Exercise together regularly and go for long evening walks too.
