This year’s women’s volleyball championship could go down to the wire after a fascinating run by reigning champions Rwanda National University (UNR) and APEDI Rwaza.

The two clubs are separated by 30 points at the top of the championship table and with two phases to wrap the championship, the title race is still open.

Although UNR has claimed four phase wins in the eight-phase league, APEDI who are only making their second league appearance are just 30 points off the pace.

The Gitarama-based club had a boosting run on their debut appearance last year after a second spot league finish and the club coach Noel Kabera believes they can go all the way this year.

"We have a genuine chance this year. We are 30 points behind but we still have two phases to go,” he said with confidence.

APEDI Rwaza is desperate to build on its gripping exude run last year.

On top a second spot finish in the league and topping the inter-schools competitions, the club also won last year’s Rutsindura memorial tournament.
