The 11 finalists of the Primus Guma Guma Superstar (PGGSS) Season III music competition on Saturday donated Rwf200, 000 to the residents of Karuvusha, Gaculiro cell, during the monthly community work ‘Umuganda’.The money will go to the construction of an office facility for Karuvusha Village, an initiative which the residents of the area have already started.Apart from the donation, the stars along with officials from the competition’s organiser and sponsor, Bralirwa Ltd joined the residents to prepare the site where the office building will be constructed.Speaking on behalf of the artistes, Urban Boyz frontman Humble Jizzo, said that the musicians were compelled to support the residents of Karuvusha in a development initiative they started."We are delighted to be part of this initiative the residents of Karuvusha started for themselves. We pledge to contribute Rwf200, 000 to this cause on top of the physical contribution we have done today,” the singer said.The contestants who included Knowless, Danny Nanone, Eric Senderi, Humble Jizzo from Urban Boyz, Platini of Dream Boys, Christopher, Mico, Fireman, Bull Dog, Kamichi and Riderman took time off to interact with the residents.There was pandemonium and excitement as the Primus Guma Guma stars descended on the village to dig trenches and clear shrubs.A number of them could be seen sweating in the mid-morning sun as they participated in one of the activities that precede the main competition which will officially kick off in May.According to Martine Gatabazi, the Bralirwa Marketing Manager, part of the competition is to see the artistes take part in development activities around the country."PGGSS is not about music alone. We want to ensure that the contestants do their part to contribute to nation building,” Gatabazi told the residents of Gaculiro.The Executive Secretary of Gaculiro Cell Jean Claude Hatungimana commended the stars for choosing the area as the venue for the monthly community work. Among other things, the contestants are expected to take part in genocide commemoration activities in the coming month of April.The stars will also engage in a series of charitable events including visiting patients in hospitals among other things.Thereafter, the contest will enter a competitive phase in May where the 11 musicians will crisscross the country to prove their might while appealing for public votes. After the road shows, the ultimate winner of the competition will be crowned in July
