The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has agreed to a request by Rwanda Volleyball Federation for teams to observe a minute of silence at this year’s Africa Club Championships in memory of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi."FRVB would like to thank CAVB for granting our request,” stated FRVB chairman Gustave Nkurunziza, who also revealed that the continental body has agreed not to organise any tournament during a time when in Rwanda they are commemorating the Genocide.The men’s championship is scheduled for April 3-11 in Libya, while the women’s event will be held in Madagascar on April 4-14. The top three teams will participate in World Cup Club Championship in May in Doha, Qatar.Rwanda will be represented by APR men and women teams in the continental meet. Initially, Rwanda requested CAVB to postpone the men’s championships due to the commemoration week, but the appeal did not materialise."We have decided to allow our teams will participate in the Africa Club championships but next year they (CAVB) have promised that no event would be held at a time when we are commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi,” Nkurunziza told Times Sport on Monday.Meanwhile, the national girls’ team lost their first game against Algeria 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-15, and 25-19) at the ongoing Africa Youth Championships in Egypt on Monday night.  In the other match, hosts Egypt beat Tunisia3-0 (25-13, 25-16, and 25-13).
