If you want your sense of style to come with a dose of playfulness, then stock up on swingy skirts this season. Whether they’re called swingy, mini full, circle mini, or skater, it’s all the same: a shorter skirt with just enough fabric that gives it some movement when you walk. After seasons of formal pencil skirts, it’s great to see some change in the designer collections for the essential wardrobe piece. This season, designers are diversifying their use of the swingy skirt. French designer Isabel Marant crafted a grey and white patterned mini skirt with two tiers of silk chiffon ruffles at the base. Band of Outsiders, a newcomer to the female fashion line focusing on American preppy style, designed a navy swingy skirt with a wide fitted band and four vertical buttons, and two layers of silk with bouquets of purple flowers as a pattern. Iconic designer and ultimate sophisticated style beauty L’wren Scott molded a subdued, purple, silk, mini-pleated swingy skirt in her collection. French fashion house Carven, made a high-waisted, sunny light-yellow circle swingy skirt. Diane von Furstenberg, famous for her wrap dresses, put the swingy skirt in a more classic style, with an all black touch, and a single layer of fabric. With a more floral take, Italian fashion house Dolce &Gabanna designed two swingy skirts this season: one with a bright flowery linen pattern on a beige coloured base, the other a full skirted forest green silk skirt with burst of large white photographic flowers. Like designers, celebrities are taking the trend and making it their own. Out with her new hit Stay, Rihanna was wearing a cream multi-tiered feminine swingy skirt. To give it her rock edge, she paired it with a tank top with a graphic of a revolver, and black lace up military style leather boots. English Actress Sienna Miller took the look more playful, with a butter yellow circle, swingy skirt paired with a navy and white striped tank and neutral coloured oxfords. Kim Kardashian made the look proper, with a tan pleated circle skirt. She wore it with a yellow silk blouse with a tie at the neck, black blazer, and sky-high Christina Louboutin oxford cut-out pumps. To wear your swingy skirt this season, make sure to let your personality shine through. If you’re more of a softer, feminine stylist, then pair with flats and a tucked in simple tank. Accessorize with bangles and a coloured purse. If you’re more of a hard edge style, pair your swingy skirt with sky-high booties and a black top. However, if you like to dress timeless and classic, pair with a blazer, and mid-height closed toed pumps. That’s the fashion scoop for this week. Got a thought? Trend? Style you hate? Send it my way.
