Following the increase of gas prices last week, most food and other essential commodities prices have risen slightly. Last week, diesel and petro were increased from Rwf1,000 to RWf1,050 per litre by the government. According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the rise was occasioned a hike of oil prices on the world market by an average of 10% since January.A kilogramme of millet flour has increased from Rwf1,200 last week to Rwf1,500 across all the major markets in the city. Maize flour is at Rwf500 to Rwf600 and rice (Pakistan) was up Rwf500 from Rwf15000 to Rwf15500 per 50kg. However, prices for rice from Kigori and Bugarama was stable at Rwf3,000 and Rwf5,000 for Bugarama rice (per 5kg pack).  Royco rose from Rwf700 to Rwf800. Sugar now costs Rwf35,000, up from RWf33,000 per 50kg.For most other commodities, prices have remained stable with beans costing Rwf450 per kilogramme and bananas are at 180kg per kilogramme, while a kilogramme of meat is Rwf2,500. A kilogrmamme of cassava costs Rwf450 and that of sim sim Rwf3,000.
