Kigali Volleyball Club have given up the chase for this year’s league title after yet another defeat against their main rivals and run-away champions, APR.

The defending champions cruised to their fifth phase win after Sunday’s 3-1 set win over KVC in the revamped Coca-cola league.

It was APR’s third phase win over KVC clearly stressing their dominance over their bitter rivals, who have not won a league title since 2003.

With just two phases to wrap up the eight-phase league, KVC’s coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva has conceded that it would take more than a miracle to deny APR the title after their scintillating run this year.

"It’s over. APR have beaten us to the title,” Nsengiyumva, who is one of the most experienced coaches in Rwanda said.

So far, APR have featured in all phase finals this year toppling KVC three times, Rwanda National University (UNR) twice and losing to KVC once.

However, Nsengiyumva still believes that there is still a lot to play for as far as the season is concerned.

"We still have the Coupe du Rwanda and Carre’d’AS tournaments to play for so it’s still open on those two fronts,” he explained to Times Sport.

After sunday’s win, APR now boast of 465 points, 75 ahead of KVC, their closest challengers.

"We know that we have the title within our reach but we need to keep performing at this level until our last league game,” APR’s coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye said.

Meanwhile, UNR registered their third phase win of the season in the ladies’ category to mount more pressure on table leaders APEDI Rwaza.
