The Rwanda National Police has appealed to farmers to adhere to the livestock quarantine to prevent the spread of animal diseases. The call follows the arrest of a man, who was intercepted by Police patrol in Kabarole sector, Gatsibo district, in the wee hours of Tuesday night with a truck-load of 16 head of cattle, which was headed to Kigali.
The suspect is currently detained at Kabarole Police Station. Gatsibo, Kayonza and Nyagatare districts are currently under a ban on cattle movement following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the districts. Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva, the Eastern Region Police spokesperson, said the temporary ban is intended to contain the likely spread of the disease. [By Times Reporter]
