The Rwandan Embassy in the Netherlands on Tuesday held a tourism promotion event in Amsterdam at the Inholland University – Diemen Campus.Co-sponsored by Turkish Airlines and Inholland University, the event aimed to provide Dutch tour operators, travel agents, and businesses and travel journalists with comprehensive information about unique tourism opportunities in Rwanda, latest developments in tourism and to connect them directly with tourism industry and Rwandan businesses."Turkish Airlines which started direct flights to Kigali from Istanbul, last year, shared experience on its routes to Rwanda and offered more information on how to access Rwanda from Europe,” said Eric Rugamba, an official at the Embassy of Rwanda, at The Hague. The theme for the event was "Rwanda, Your Next Destination in Africa.”Tourism products and the beauty of Rwanda were showcased to the Dutch travel industry, travel journalists and editors.Rwanda’s booming tourism industry and innovative development of attractive tourism products were delivered in presentations by the Embassy, the Rwanda Tourism University College (RTUC) and Inholland University. A delegation consisting of tour operators from Rwanda and representatives of the RTUC participated in the event. Tourism, the country’s highest foreign exchange earner, fetched US$281.8 million (over Rwf180billion) – 58.4 per cent of total foreign exchange earnings – in 2012. Mining, the second top earner, fetched US$136.6 million last year.
