The Minister of East African Community Affairs, Monique Mukaruliza, has started a campaign to enlighten students about the affairs of East African Community. The minister launched an integration club at St. Alloys Rwamagana School, yesterday, to encourage the students to understand the EAC integration process. St. Alloys Rwamagana School, founded by Josephite Brothers, has a population of 1,122 students. According to Mukaruliza, the club will help enhance knowledge among the student community, knowledge she argued, should be taken back home so as to benefit the general public. Benefits"This club will help the students to be knowledgeable about the EAC integration programme and procedure, and will, in turn, work as information agents in all communities,” she said.She noted that students and teachers would also be enlightened about Rwanda’s achievements, progress and challenges from EAC integration."We explain fully to students and teachers what EAC is all about. Soon about 60 integration clubs countrywide will engage in a debate about the Community. The students of today will be the managers of EAC affairs tomorrow. They should enlighten themselves enough about these issues,” Mukaruliza said.‘Timely initiative’The head teacher of St. Alloys Rwamagana, Brother Camille Rudasingwa Karemera, reiterated the need to enlighten the school community about EAC affairs.He said the impending debate competition about EAC, would be more profitable, adding that students learn better by doing."This is a very good programme. I appreciate the initiative to set up the clubs. Most students understand EAC in a vague way, which sets a bad tone for the future. So, giving them knowledge about EAC is timely intervention,”Brother Rudasingwa he said.In the spirit of promoting district led development, awareness campaigns on EAC and mainstreaming will continue to other schools and districts in the country.
