RUTSIRO — At least 10 remains of the 1994 Genocide victims have been recovered in Rutsiro district, officials have said.
The remains will get a befitting burial at Nyamagumba memorial site on late this week as part of activities to end the three-month mourning period. The remains were discovered in Nyamagumba in Gihango sector.
Speaking to The New Times, the district Mayor Jean Ndimubahire urged residents of Murunda, Manihira, Mushubati and Gihango to turn up during the burial in order to give respect to the victims and comfort the survivors.
"Comforting survivors is much more than accompanying them to bury bones. We should join hands to make sure that projects helping survivors are given priority as residents of Rutsiro,” the Mayor said.
He explained that talking to survivors, comforting them and showing togetherness to them is also important, though more action is needed from every one to make survivors’ lives better.
As part of the activities, sources said, a peaceful march from Rutsiro district to Nyamagumba will be conducted starting at 9:00 o’clock in the morning, before saying prayers at the memorial site where the remains will be laid.
