Saturday evening was a night of joy and fun as Kenyans living in Kigali converged at the Royal Car Wash, a local pub, to celebrate the victory of Uhuru Kenyatta in the just-concluded presidential election.The son of Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya’s founding president, was at the weekend declared the winner of Kenya’s presidential race after garnering 6,173,433 (50.07 percent) of the total vote."I have waited for four days to see the end of it, and finally the results are out. I am happy with the results,” Francis Wahome, a Kenyan resident in Rwanda, told The New Times.Wahome, the manager of Car Wash, said they started celebrating Kenyatta’s win soon after the release of provisional results. "We waited for the official results and Uhuru’s acceptance speech; he is a great leader, who will drive Kenya forward,” he said.After the announcement of the results, at Car Wash, eyes were glued on the TV screens, as they continued to watch post election news conferences in their home country, Kenya.Some were worried of any chaotic scenes back home."I am happy with the win and looking forward to see different political parties working together for the development of Kenya,” said Michael Maina, another Kenyan resident in Rwanda, adding that the elections were transparent and he was contented with the results.Regarding Raila Odinga’s move to challenge the polls results in the Supreme Court of Kenya, Maina said, "It’s upon him to provide evidence if he thinks that he was cheated. It’s his right.”
