Police have arrested a woman and her son in Gatagara sector, Musanze district, in connection with the death of the husband and father of the duo, respectively.It is alleged that the 47-year-old mother and her 24-year-old son, on Thursday, at about 7:30pm, assaulted Jean de Dieu Ntawukizanuwe, who died later from injuries sustained in the domestic fight.Preliminary investigations indicate that the tragic incident was caused by family conflict. The suspects are being held at Busogo Police Station, while the victim’s body was taken to Ruhengeri Hospital for post-mortem.According to Police, on the fateful day, the victim came back home drunk and started assaulting his wife, who reportedly enlisted the support of her son in the fight.Police say the son hit the father with a club, leaving him with injuries that caused his death. The suspects will be charged with parricide and spousal homicide, which are punishable by life sentence under Article 141 and 142 of the Penal Code.Parricide is a crime levied against any person who kills his or her parents, whether or not such parents are biological or legally recognised.Supt. Francis Gahima, the Northern Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and the subsequent arrest. Gahima attributed such conflicts to excessive drinking and drug abuse, and cautioned the community to desist from the practices that lure them into criminal acts.
