The national men and women cycling teams have started their training sessions as they prepare for the forthcoming 2022 UCI Road World Championship in Wollongong, Australia, from September 18-25.

Head coach Felix Sempoma called up 10 riders, including four women, in junior and elite categories, and six men playing in junior, Under 23 and elite categories.

The riders started training on Wednesday, September 7, at the Africa Rising Cycling Centre, in Musanze District. They will spend there more than a week until they depart for Wollongong, two or three days before the tournament.

About 1,000 athletes are expected at the 2022 UCI Road World Championships.

In February, the UCI announced that a Women’s U23 category will be added to the road and time trial race. The title will be awarded from within the elite women’s event and a separate race will be added from 2025.
