Rayon Sport coach Didier Gomez da Roza is pleased with his team’s form that has enabled the club to stretch the gap at the top of the Primus National Football League table to four points with eight matches left. The Nyanza-based side are enjoying their best run of form, which has put them at the top of the league with 38 points, four ahead of second-placed Police FC and a further five better than reigning champions APR in third place. Both Police and APR have played a game less though. In their last league outing, Rayon beat Mukura 2-0 on Sunday to continue their unbeaten run since the Frenchman took charge three months ago replacing Abdul Bizimungu, who was sacked. At that time, the club was languishing in the bottom three. "I am very happy because we managed to win such an important game against Mukura, a very difficult team to beat. It was important for us to win this game, which not only keeps us at the top (of the table) but also in the race for the title with 8 matches left,” Gomes told Times Sport on Monday. He added, "This shows that the boys are hungry to win every match. I am happy for them and they are gaining more confidence with a very game we play, which is good for the team going into the most difficult stage of the season.” The next three weeks will define Rayon’s season when they face their nearest three rivals Police, APR and Kiyovu and Gomez knows that maximum points or at least six points from those three games will put his team in a commanding position for their first league title since 2004."This is a very crucial period. We are top of the league table but we know that our next three matches will have a huge impact on the title race,” the Frenchman explained.
