President Paul Kagame, on Sunday, July 9, joined thousands of Bahamas residents as the country marked the 50th Anniversary of Independence.
The former British colony marked the Day in front of a huge crowd at Clifford Park on Sunday night into Monday morning – culminating in a spectacular fireworks display and marking the celebration that was held on July 9-10.
Prior to the Clifford Park event, President Paul Kagame who was a guest at the celebrations was awarded the Order of Excellence, Bahamas' highest honor in recognition of his friendship to the government and people of the Bahamas.
Kagame received the award from Governor General Cornelius Smith of Bahamas, in the presence of Prime Minister Philip Davis, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, Prime Minister Ariel Henry of Haiti, Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland, among other several dignitaries.
Kagame started his Caribbean visit on July 5, first stopping in Trinidad and Tobago to attend the 45th Meeting of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM).
