Kigali Institute of education (KIE) Friday crowned a 3rd year student Nazia Mutungirehe-(25 years old) as the institution’s beauty queen (Miss KIE).

The new Miss KIE emerged a winner (77%) followed by a 2nd year student Delphine Ramungu-20 years old (72%) and a 3rd year student Jackie Uwamungu-23 years old with 70 percent of the total marks.

"The most challenging moment to me was waiting for the last announcement of the winner, because I had observed we were all able to win. I would wish other girls to get interested because it is not a bad culture,” the new Miss KIE told The New Times after being crowned.

The student in faculty of arts who was selected among ten girls said that she will work with others to sell the image of KIE and her country, Rwanda.

She also said that she will help to build confidence in other girls to win fear and go for public exposure.

The beauty contest attracted a panel of nine Judges chaired by Mary Barikungeri of Rwanda Women Network.
Barikungeri told The New Times in an interview that selecting the winner was a hard task.

She said that beauty contest was a way of grooving young women into leadership.

The beauty queens were dressed and trained by Rosarie Gicanda of Promote Service, a fashion agency.

However, some people went unsatisfied with the jury’s’ judgment saying that their decision was not balanced.

"I don’t see the charm in her like the chairperson has said, neither is she more beautiful than those dark skinned girls you have seen, only her light skin was appealing and probably slender figure,” Musabyeyezu said.

The KIE’s beauty contest was part of the events that winded up the institution’s cultural week.
