RUSIZI —  Police in Kamembe Sector, Rusizi district are holding a woman for allegedly fueling genocide ideology and ethnic discrimination.

Josephine Maniraguha, 46, a resident of Kamurera cell in Kamembe sector was arrested last week after a complaint was submitted by her neighbor.

According to the Police and other sources the culprit has been verbally insulting her neighbor with ethnic remarks. The neighbor was identified as Mukabaranga.

"We have arrested and detained a woman called Maniraguha after being tipped by our informers that she abused her neighbor with words suggesting genocide and ethnic ideology. And we can’t condone such acts in our region,” the Police said.

According to sources, the suspect is also accused of instructing her son, Theogene Tuyisenge19, on several occasions to steal hens, goats and other house hold properties of Mukabaranga.

But whenever the owner complained, the suspect told her off using ethnic remarks.

In some of her verbal utterances, Maniraguha is reported to have said that the current government is sectarian with a mission to imprison a section of other nationals on ethnic grounds.

In another incident, the source said, Maniraguha had instructed her children to always abuse, harass and cut others with machete whenever they meet on the way.

"I reported Maniraguha to the Police because I myself heard her instructing her children to always abuse, harass and if possible to cut children of her neighbors with machete on ethnic grounds, a clear indication that she harbors genocide ideology and ethnic discrimination,” Mukabaranga told The New Times.

However, while at the police station, the suspect denied the charges. "I really don’t harbour genocide ideology or even have any ethnic divisionism as my neighbor Mukabaranga alleges.

But I know she is just nursing a personal grudge after we quarreled over domestic issues,” she said.
