Confidence building, particularly of the Girl Child, will be the focus of Women Empowerment Week, which starts on Monday. The activities, that begin next week, are organised by Empowering Creative Women Initiative and Programmes for Development.Chance Tubane, the coordinator of the programme, told journalists at a recent news briefing that the empowerment week will target girls from 18 years and above as this is the time they are old enough to be regarded as women."As a Rwandan entrepreneur, I have been motivated and empowered by very many people and this gives me a passion to motivate other women and girls, while building their confidence,” she said. Moreover, there will also be Miss Gender contests where the winner stands a chance to bag Rwf5m to run a small business. The contest, Tubane explained, will help participants gain confidence and boost self-esteem, which young girls and women need.It will also encourage girls to be creative even when in schools so that by the time they come out of school, they become job creators instead of job seekers, said, Tubane. Participants will engage in motivation talk, debates, visiting women cooperatives and career guidance, according to the organisers, Empowering Creative Women Initiative and Programmes for Development.
