PLATFORMS WHERE MODELS showcase their potential and talent are rare. But, with passion, they always strive to be the best on the runway, whether they get paid or not.

But Supra Model Rwanda, a new fashion concept, has come of age with a contest dedicated to only models where the best ones get recognised.

"We brought this platform to not only identify youth with outstanding models because we want to motivate them to pursue their career with pride. Those who aspire to become future top models will be discovered through this contest,” said Alphonse Nsengiyumva, the brains behind Supra Model Rwanda.

Over 120 models registered for the inaugural edition of the modeling contest, which started with auditions in July.

The models were reduced to 31 in August and six will be eliminated during the final auditions slated for Saturday, September 10 at Century Park Hotel, to wrap up the organisers’ search for the top 25 models who will progress to the semifinals slated for October 1.

The final selection will feature a fashion show, red carpet, performance, glamor and style.

Nsengiyumva said they are looking for young models who have potential to hit the runway at top fashion events for years.

The best model will be announced during a gala night slated for October 29, and will walk away with a whopping Rwf1, 000, 000 cash prize and a trip to Dubai.

Recognising players in fashion industry

The fashion industry has gone through an incredible rise over the past few years but the story would have been different if not for the role of various players in the industry.

While outstanding models will be awarded to value their talent, Nsengiyumva said they are planning to recognise players who have contributed to the development of the fashion industry over the years.

"We want to recognise their efforts in pushing the fashion industry because we think it is the right thing and the least we can do for those who fight for this growing industry,” he said.

From the media personalities that have been doing their best to promote fashion, to designers who have been creating new fashion trends that can compete on the international scene despite belonging to a struggling but growing industry, the organisers are looking at ways to give them the credit they deserve.

Players that will be recognized include Best Fashion Journalist, Best Photographer, Best Modeling Agency, Best Makeup Artist, Best Designer, Best Fashion Entrepreneur and Best Model on the International Stage.

The public is now voting for their favourite in the seven categories and the winners will be announced and recognised during the grand finale of Supra Model Rwanda on October 29.
