Schedule for a routine eye examinationAn annual eye examination is recommend especially if you are aging since more eye problems are brought about by decreasing functions of our organs and our health conditions such as diabetes and multiple sclerosis. Even though your vision is perfect enough, it is not an excuse that your eye sight can decline. Never strain your eyes Straining is forcing your eyes to work even if it’s tired enough to do the work for you. If you do this, the drawback is not sudden but gradual. This might not cause you to lose your vision in a sudden phase but can contribute to the fatigue of your eyes. Be mindful of the warning signsBased on science, the great thing about our unique body is its capability to give us warning signs in conditions wherein they are in trouble. Anything unusual, uncommon and unfamiliar signs that might happen to one’s eye such as itchiness, eye fatigue, blurring of vision, difficulty in focusing an object, unable to identify colors, inverted views, reddening of the eyes, pain, sudden loss of vision, unusual discharges, halos around light, tunnel vision, falling curtain vision and headache are indicators that you need to visit your doctor as soon as possible because this might exacerbate your eyes’ condition.Make distance reading a habit Our eyes were not designed for extended use in close-work task such as reading, computer works, factory work, sewing, cross stitch etc. That’s why there is such thing as 20/20 vision because gazing at distance (on more feet away) is our eyes’ normal function.  When you do this, your inner eye muscle relaxes.Get enough sunrays for your eyes Yes, it’s true that sunrays can damage your vision but in great amount. Our eyes is naturally nourished and healed by warm radiating energy coming from our source of heat, the sun. Exposing your eyes to sunlight is best for nourishment and maintaining its optimal functions. Do not force your eyes to work when you are tired and sickThis is due to the fact that when one is sick or weak enough, the body’s entire system is also weak, thus your eye muscles cannot function optimally making your vision blurry.Refrain from reading more than thirty minutes Based on studies, our eyes can be used for reading for about a maximum of thirty minutes without straining or eye fatigue. Do not abuse your eyes, practice some relaxation techniques or exercises in between to get rid of eye fatigue. Finally, eat your eye friendly veggies When we are young, our parents taught us to eat carrots and squash because these vegetables are nutritious to our eyes. This is not a fallacy. Orange and red-orange coloured vegetables are rich in beta carotene (which is an inactive form of Vitamin A) which is essential for the retina of our eyes in absorbing lights and colours.
