Discover Rwanda Youth Hostel is popular with whites. The New Times/David Hansen

Indian Chef RestaurantLocated behind Kigali Diplomat Hotel, The Indian Chef is overshadowed by its more famous neighbour. But its cozy atmosphere suggests that the restaurant is an ideal place for those who want to take out their wives, girlfriends or children.  Good thing about the restaurant is that it offers a variety of local and international foods – Indian, African, Intercontinental you name it. When I visited this place a few days ago, one of the things that I liked about it – apart from the food, of course – was the giant glass chandelier hanging in the grass-thatched patio of the restaurant. Prices range from Rwf2,500 to Rwf11,000. Discover Rwanda Youth HostelLocated near Bank of Kigali, Discover Rwanda is a very tranquil place. And this nook is quite cheap compared to many in Kacyiru. Patrons here also enjoy free internet connection. Which is a plus, huh? It is as well that it is favoured by white tourists. It is also an ideal hangout for movie-goers. But the most important thing is that if you spend your money here, it will be money spent for a noble cause as part of it will help Genocide survivors. Shokola CaféLike most restaurants here, Shokola has a famous neighbour – Magda Café. Both restaurants are located in the same building, Prester House. For the uninitiated, this is the same building that houses Bank of Kigali. The restaurant, which boasts of a beautiful interior décor, is mostly popular with the expats community. However, a full course meal here is quite costly so make sure you carry enough money on you. Overall though, Shokola should be visited as frequently as one visits Kacyiru!
