On February 4, Mani Martin was admitted at Kigali University Teaching Hospital (CHUK) after he sustained injuries in a road accident while on his way to Kigali Serena Hotel. Though his injuries weren’t life threatening, the 24 year old was scheduled to represent Rwanda at ‘Sauti za Busara’, an annual concert that brings together African artists and bands. It concluded last weekend.During a previous interview with The New Times while at his home in Nyakabanda, Mani Martin, said, "I had been selected to represent Rwanda at ‘Sauti za Busara’ festival in Zanzibar which kicks off on the 16th of this month, but I don’t know whether I will make it. Everything is in God’s hands now.” Well, God listened to his prayers and indeed he recovered in time to travel with his band where he performed at the star studded festival that had musicians like Cheikh Lô (Senegal)  Khaira Arby (Mali)  Comrade Fatso & Chabvondoka (Zimbabwe)  Sousou & Maher Cissoko (Senegal / Sweden)  Peter Msechu (Tanzania)  Atongo Zimba (Ghana / UK)  N’Faly Kouyaté (Guinea)  and Nathalie Natiembe (Reunion)."I have just returned from Zanzibar and all I can tell you right now is that it was a great experience. I didn’t have enough time to practice with my band but we impressed the crowd and also got to learn a lot from the many musicians at the festival. It was the first time for Rwanda to be at the ‘Sauti za Busara’ festival.”Mani Martin also revealed that he has no intentions of pursuing the driver who ran over himon that day saying, "I spent a lot of time recovering from those injuries, and I can’t spend any more time looking for that person. I am happy to be okay.”Meanwhile, the motorcycle rider who was with Mani Martin the day they had their accident is still in critical condition. "He is still at CHUK with his legs wrapped in cement. The good thing is that he had medical insurance, but then because I survived the accident with him, I have to visit him whenever I can. His family stays in Kibungo.”Mani Martin started singing at the age of 11 in an ADEPR church choir and launched two albums last year at a sell-out concert in Kigali. The albums were My destiny and Intero y’Amahoro.
