Atraco Fc has released five of their Ugandan-born players as part of the club’s restructuring drive ahead of the start of next season.
The axed players include; striker Martin Muwanga, midfielders Emmanuel Balyejusa, Mohammed Byansi, Morley Ochama Byekwaso and goalkeeper Ojok Morgan.
Atraco vice president confirmed the development yesterday and said that it was aimed at reducing at the number of foreign players at the club.
"We just had to reduce on the number of foreign players that we recruited before the start of the last season,” Issa Ngenzi admitted.
He added, "This is done to abide by the rules of the new Ferwafa statute which was approved early this year.
Any league club is allowed not more than eight foreign players and we had more than the required number.”
"We are still reducing the number of foreigners such that we recruit local young players before next year’s league starts.”
Despite the release of the five, Atraco still has up to 12 foreigners on their books, Muwanga who their leading marksman with nine goals from last season.
The Ugandan players were recruited by former coach Sam Ssimbwa who was also offloaded in March after failing to guide Atraco to the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup.
