Dear Editor,

The last few months have been characterised by hikes in fuel prices and this has greatly affected our daily lifestyles.

The reasons can be blamed on the instability of Kenyan politics. Ever since the post election violence months back, trailers carrying fuel were limited from reaching the inland countries including Rwanda.

But since the power sharing deal was settled in Kenya, violence has decelerated. We are left wondering why the fuel prices do not normalize again.

This is making life hard because fuel and food are interdependent. The higher the fuel prices, the higher the transport costs.

This makes traders of all categories hike the prices of food and whatever merchandise they are selling. This eventually leads to higher standards of living. The reverse is also true.
Though this situation is beyond the lay man’s reach, the Rwandan government has great influence in this area and through agreements with other affected inland countries an arrangement can be reached to find an answer to this dilemma.
