Gustave Nkurunziza, (R) one of the two candidates contesting for the chairmanship of Rwanda Volleyball Federation has promised to bring fundamental change to the sport.The elections are set for today at the federation headquarters located at Amahoro Stadium at 9:00am. Nkurunziza, who has been the treasurer in the federation, says if elected he would ensure that the volleyball regains its past glory days and has a steady source of funding."Volleyball used to be one of the most popular sport in Rwanda but the last couple of years have seen it go down, which in the end, has turned the fans and sponsors away. If elected, I will look for permanent sponsorship and put the whole federation in order. Nkurunziza played for petit Seminaire Karubanda and National University of Rwanda where he was a student. He added, "I will focus on building the infrastructure, and I will do all my best in my term to build our own volleyball Gymnasium, we must stop depending on the goodwill of the government.” The other candidate is Antoine Sebalinda, 55, who played for Zephyr, National University of Rwanda and EWSA and the national team. However, efforts by Saturday Sport to talk to him were futile as he could not be reached on his known phone number. Other posts up for grabs include that of Secretary General, treasury and two heads of commissions.
