Weekend Proggie

There are quite a few people in history who are celebrated like Bob Marley. We party like it’s the last day of partying on the day he died (May 11th). We also party like its Christmas on his birthday. Wednesday was his birthday and since it was a week day, we pushed celebrating his birth to Friday (today).

The premiere begins at 6pmSynopsis of  ImbabaziKaremera and Manzi are best friends living in a village on the banks of Lake Kivu, Rwanda, in 1994. As the country descends into ethnic civil war, Manzi becomes torn between his friendship to Karemera and a loyalty to his extremist Hutu father. When the Hutu president’s plane is shot down, igniting the genocide, Manzi leads a group of men who kill Karemera’s Tutsi family. Karemera manages to escape to neighboring Zaire.Fifteen years later, Karemera lives with his wife and son in Kigali when he receives news that Manzi has been released from prison for his role in the genocide. Karemera returns to his old village to find witnesses who can send Manzi back to prison, while Manzi struggles to start a new life in spite of the crippling guilt he feels over his actions fifteen years ago.As Karemera searches for justice and Manzi for absolution, both men find themselves at odds with a society eager to forget the trauma of the past. Crossing paths in their old village only makes the men more desperate, until ultimately the question becomes whether peace will ever be achievable if they are unable to move forward together.
